Classical is a National Blue Ribbon award-winning network of schools located in the South Bronx. Though our neighborhoods are historically under-served, we provide a world-class, well-rounded education to our scholars through a classical curriculum that includes art, music, Latin, debate and citizenship.
The School Leaders Fellowship is designed to maximize the immediate impact of fellows at their host school, while simultaneously providing stretch opportunities in the key competencies of school leadership. It is open to any internal or external applicant with demonstrated mastery in one or more functional areas—instruction, culture, operations, strategy—and involves both work in the areas of strength and development across functions through shadowing and managing additional projects.
Background: Classical Charter Schools is a National Blue Ribbon Award-winning network of K-8 schools located in the South Bronx. Though our neighborhoods are historically under-served, we provide a world-class education to our scholars through a classical curriculum that includes art, music, Latin, debate and character education. Since our founding in 2006, we have grown slowly and methodically—intensely focused on solidifying our curriculum and coaching model. We are now ready to replicate our model and expect to open one school every other year for the next several years.
Objective: To achieve this growth, we need skilled, motivated, and aligned School Directors who are grounded in our model, well-versed in our systems, and capable of managing and leading their teams. Therefore, we seek Fellows to spend one or two academic years, depending on experience and readiness, working at one of our schools in a high-impact role, while simultaneously engaging in observations, professional development and stretch opportunities to learn about and build skills in other areas of operation.
These Fellows will then go on to lead our newest schools.
Structure: Fellows will serve as regular, full-time employees, spending 75% of their time in their primary workstream. The rest of the time will be spent building skill by supporting the work of the following teams: either in rotation or as necessary:
Requirements: Fellows must have at least 4 years of experience in a high-performing educational organization or non-profit, and a demonstrated fit with our mission and approach. Direct instructional experience is preferred, but not required.
Promotion to School Director is contingent on performance and network need.
