    Classical Charter Schools is a National Blue Ribbon Award-winning network of charter schools located in the South Bronx. Though our neighborhoods are historically under-served, we provide a world-class, well-rounded education to our scholars through a classical curriculum that includes art, music, Latin, debate and character education.

    Responsibilities

    Classical Charter Schools Substitute Bus Attendants provide support in the Main Office and fill in on our bus routes when one of the normal bus attendants is out. Work in the main office includes filing & scanning, organizing libraries & supply closets, and more. While riding the bus, you’ll be responsible for managing scholar behavior to ensure all scholars are safe and provide the driver freedom to operate the school bus safely.

    Substitute bus attendants work for two hours per day (4pm-6pm) if no other attendants are out. If asked to ride on one of our bus routes, they’ll get paid for two hours per shift (morning or afternoon). Substitute bus attendants must be available between 6:00am-8:00am and 4:00pm-6:00pm. Additional hours may be available during busy times for the Main Office staff.

     

    Main Office responsibilities include:

    • Scan and upload documents to school computer database.
    • Call families to inquire about specific information.
    • Organize school spaces, such as libraries and supply closets.
    • Monitor scholars while taking a test or doing independent work.
    • Other projects as determined by the Operations Manager.

     

    Bus Attendant responsibilities include:

     

    • Supervise scholars while on the bus, strictly enforcing behavioral expectations.
    • Seat scholars based on their behavior and bus stop order.
    • Escort scholars in organized lines between the school building and bus.
    • Call the school if a parent is not at the bus stop to coordinate a pick-up time.

    Qualifications

    • Certification through the Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) preferred. If not already certified at the time of hire, Bus Attendants may apply for certification, which involves several examinations, training courses and fingerprinting.
    • Professional demeanor.
    • Experience working with children strongly preferred.
