  • Overview

Classical Charter Schools are high-performing public charter schools in the South Bronx. We seek to develop an uncompromising but purposeful education program that liberates teachers and scholars from distraction, transforming the classroom into an environment sharply focused on learning. Despite serving students typically deemed ‘at-risk,’ we consistently outperform over 90% of New York schools and won the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2014.

    Responsibilities

This position is a temporary leave replacement from March 23rd until June 26th.

Art Teachers are passionate about supporting the school's classical mission and helping all students gain knowledge of art. Art Teachers’ primary responsibilities are to:

    • Provide instruction in music to scholars in a way that maximizes learning.
    • Maintain a “no-excuses,” highly ordered classroom culture where scholars demonstrate respect, responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, fairness, and citizenship.

Under the supervision and direction of the School Leader, Art Teachers:

    • Study, practice, and execute lessons that lead scholars to mastery of art content, using our rigorous curriculum.
    • Maintain a lesson pace which both ensures comprehension and maximizes students' ability to engage in the activity.
    • Organize art materials thoughtfully, developing classroom routines to manage materials efficiently with minimal lost activity time.
    • Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
    • Manage student behavior for an effective learning environment.
    • Maintain accurate records of student information and assessment data.
    • Work cooperatively and professionally with other staff, including attending team and staff meetings.
